Passing the Bone: America's Next POTUS

Texas kindergarten teacher Heather Patterson has recently released a new book entitled Passing the Bone: America's Next POTUS.

“Passing the Bone – America’s Next POTUS” combines history, civics, and cute characters. This is a good book for 5 – 14 year old readers that teaches kids about the rights and responsibilities of the POTUS in a funny, witty way.

The book tells us the story of the Pup of the United States. Before stepping down, he addresses the people one more time. He then presents briefly his accomplishments as POTUS, but also the difficult tasks he has had: this pup has even managed to make peace between the felines and dogs of Washington!

Among other responsibilities and sacrifices, the POTUS needs to learn the tune of the national anthem and bark along accordingly, show respect and honor to our armed forces, spend all that time flying on Air Force One “cooped up in that little room”.

Heather Patterson, the author, is an elementary school teacher in Texas, who thus knows and understands what interests the readers of this age group and manages to talk about a difficult subject in terms that children can understand. The book is short enough to maintain the pupils’ interest, but long enough to teach a valuable lesson about the POTUS.

The illustrations by Jingo de la Rosa are just adorable!
